In 50 years will your family be able to reminisce over old photographs and movies? Will your children have a copy? The answer to this question largely depends on what you do today to preserve your life’s story. Embrace the season of harvesting and storing! Dig out your boxes of printed photos, gather them all together, and have them scanned so you can back them up securely. Then store the printed photos in acid free, photo safe boxes in a climate controlled area of your home. Even if you don’t organize a single photo, this will ensure the photos are safe. This will also allow you the conveniences of digital technology. For example, I was looking at my sister’s photo album with printed photos in it from my nephew’s wedding 20 years ago. I saw a photo and wanted to see who was in the background. I put my fingers on the photo and tried to zoom in to see who it was. Bonnie, you can’t zoom in on a printed photo! If that photo was digitized, I could have zoomed in to the background easily.
