One of Frank’s favorite recent memories of his Mom was when we were in Florida visiting and we pulled out all of the photo albums and started asking her questions and hearing stories. Some stories he remembered and some he didn’t (making the latter all the more important to share before she passed). Those moments were once life-in-the-moment for his mother, now preserved as memories for his whole family. He and his kids loved the family history, absorbing the stories behind each of those snatches of time. Photos can have a bittersweet impact but it’s all part of life. I was reminded of my own parents (gone for some time now) and my own determination to pass on family history to my kids in an organized fashion. I want them to feel connected to me, to our family history, and to pass that along in the future.
