Marie Kondo’s famous organizing system, the KonMari Method, started with her bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Many of her principles can be applied to photo organizing. (In fact, she discusses photo organizing in her work.) Here are two of my favorites from Marie: 1.) Ask yourself: “Does this spark joy?” If it does, keep it. If it doesn’t, dispose of it. 2.) Tidy in the right order. There are only two tasks involved – discarding and deciding where to keep things. Just two, but discarding must come first. Do not even think of putting your things away until you have finished the process of discarding. Marie’s system is all about choosing joy. That sounds like a perfect new habit for 2021! Apply these simple principles to your photo organizing and you’ll have much less mess to organize.
